EQUIPMENT AND IN-HOUSE FACILITIES
All spaces in the workshops are offered on a first come first served basis. To secure your space, you must register by paying in full for the workshop. Final deadline to register for workshops is ONE WEEK before the first workshop session. If a workshop does not have the minimum amount of participants needed to run, registered participants will be rolled over to the next session of the same workshop. REFUNDS are only available to those registered for a cancelled workshop.
CONDITIONS OF ACCESS
Before renting equipment at CFAT you must first be cleared on that equipment. Clearance can be attained through taking a workshop, or through a tutoring session with a trusted CFAT tutor. Clearance turorials can be arranged through the Centre.
PROGRAMMING
Through calls for submissions and curatorial projects, the Centre for Art Tapes promotes the understanding and exploration of media arts. The Centre offers a diverse program of public screenings, artist presentations, performances, audio exhibitions and installations. This ecompasses the work of local, regional, national, and international artists.
COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS
Artists and community groups are encouraged to propose and develop projects with the Programming Commitee. CFAT has co-produced events with CKDU-FM, eyelevelgallery, the Khyber, Mi'kmaq Friendship Centre, Leave Out Violence, Moving Images Group, Dalhousie University Art Gallery, Saint Mary's University Art Gallery, Mount Saint Vincent University Art Gallery, Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University and many others.
LOCAL ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
Each year, 2 local media artists are selected to spend 3-4 weeks at the Centre for Art Tapes to produce and present their work, to teach workshops and to meet with the local community.
MEDIA ARTS SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships are awarded annually to first-time video, audio, and new media artists. Successful applicants are determined by a rotating peer selection committee. This award covers the basic costs of training and equipment rental, and provides mentorship, an honorarium upon completion and a premier event for the completed piece.
VIDEO TO GO
Video To Go is the Centre for Art Tapes' mechanism for providing support to underserved groups in the broader community who wish to make media art. The success of this program has created a launching pad for continued partnership activity with community groups. Ongoing submission deadline.
ARCHIVES
The Centre for Art Tapes maintains a permanent collection that documents the achievements and direction of local and regional independant video, audio, and performance artists. In addition to a video and audio library, the archives contains reviews, posters, and catalogues of past exhibitions. The public is welcome to view our archives at no charge.
